God Makes All Things New

The day my life became clear

water-skyHave you ever wanted a second chance?  I know that I have.  When I was 20 years old, my life was all about myself.  I wasn’t interested in doing anything for anyone else.  I certainly didn’t have a relationship with God.  My life was completely wrapped up in myself.  I didn’t really care about other people and their needs.  I didn’t have any need for a relationship with God.  He wasn’t even on my radar, because I was too busy pursuing my own selfish interests.

What’s amazing is, as I look back I realize that God was at work in my life, even then.  It was as if wherever I went there were people in my life that were sharing God’s love with me.  My boss, my parents and even some of my friends were telling me about the Lord.  They were all telling me something that I never understood before…  God loves me.  It was the first time in my life that I had heard and understood that God wants a relationship with me.  I realized that I was a sinner and had no hope in my life apart from Jesus.  I came to know Christ on New Year’s Eve almost fifteen years ago.  It was then that for the first time in my life I had a clear picture of who God was.

God gives second chances

God makes all things new, “…Behold, I am making all things new.” Revelation 21:5 (ESV)  Regardless of what you have done in your past, God offers you a second chance.  He offers this second chance through his Son, Jesus Christ.  It is a gift from God and all you have to do is receive it.  There is nothing that you can do to earn God’s love or salvation.  Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2).  Only he can offer you new life and a true second chance.

The second chance that God offers you does not guarantee you success, money, or fame.  It doesn’t really guarantee anything other than eternal life with God, but what a gift that is.  Your life will change.  God has a unique purpose for you and that purpose will become more clear to you as you grow in your relationship with him.

What do you do now?

If you have a pulse, you are a sinner.  You are in dire need of a savior.  Ask God to forgive you for your sins.  Ask him to save you.  Romans 10:9 declares that “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.  Trust in God and let him direct you and the things that you say and do.  Accept God’s gift to you and allow him to do a marvelous work in your life.  You may already consider yourself a good person, but like everyone else you have fallen short of perfection.  God will change you in a mighty way if you let him.

As you look forward to the upcoming new year, remember that God loves you.  Make a decision for Jesus.  It’s the most permanent change you can make.  He offers you a second chance.  He makes all things new.
